Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships 2027 — Master’s and PhD in Germany

The Heinrich Böll Foundation, the political foundation affiliated with Germany's Green party, funds international students doing a Master's or a doctorate at a German university. It gives priority to applicants from DAC countries — the OECD's list of developing and emerging economies, which includes Cameroon — who are not yet living in Germany.

Deadline: 1 March 2027. The application window for that round runs from 15 January 2027. A second window runs 15 July to 1 September 2027 if you miss the first. The foundation does not print a cut-off time, so treat the deadline as end of day German time.

What you get

• Non-EU students: €992 a month plus individual allowances
• EU nationals: up to €855 a month plus a €300 monthly study-costs allowance
• Possible family, childcare and health-insurance allowances on top
• Standard funding: two years for a Master's, three for a doctorate

Who can apply

• Master's applicants need a programme of at least four semesters' standard duration
• German at B2 level, or a DSH-1 certificate, is required — this is the requirement that catches most international applicants out, so start your German early
• The foundation looks for academic excellence and demonstrated social or political commitment, in line with its values: ecology, democracy, human rights, solidarity and non-violence
• No age limit and no application fee
