About this opportunity
IUSSP gives five regional Early Career Awards every two years — one each for Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America — to population researchers making an early mark.
What winners get. A profile on the IUSSP website and in its bulletin, a slot to present their research in a 2027 webinar, free registration to the International Population Conference 2029 in Barcelona, and recognition at an awards ceremony. There is no cash prize — the value here is visibility in a small, well-connected field.
Eligibility. No more than seven years since your PhD as at the nomination deadline, with extensions of up to three years for documented career interruptions (parental leave, caregiving, illness). You must be a resident of the region you are nominated in and hold current IUSSP membership.
The part that takes planning. A nomination needs support from at least five IUSSP members based in more than one country, with at least three from your own region. Self-nomination is allowed on the same terms. Council members cannot act as supporters. Start asking colleagues weeks ahead — this is the constraint that decides whether you make the deadline.
What you submit. A one-to-two page nomination letter, a CV with publication list, and any documentation justifying an extended career window. The form is only open to current IUSSP members.
Deadline. 1 November 2026.
