Getty Conservation Guest Scholars 2027/28

The Getty Conservation Institute brings a small group of scholars and practitioners to Los Angeles each year to work on a research project about the conservation of cultural heritage — objects, collections, buildings or sites.

What you get. USD 21,500 for a three-month residency, an apartment in the Getty scholar housing complex, a workstation at the Getty Center, research assistance, a travel stipend and optional healthcare coverage.

When. You choose one of three residency periods: September–December, January–March, or April–June.

Who can apply. Researchers and practitioners of all nationalities. Getty asks for at least seven years of professional experience and an established record of publications or other contributions to the conservation field. This is not a student or postdoctoral award — postdoctoral research and degree-seeking projects are explicitly excluded.

Deadline. 1 October 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Los Angeles time (the card shows the same moment in New York, because Togeva does not carry a Pacific time zone). Applications go through the Getty Foundation grant portal, linked from the programme page.

If your work is in heritage conservation and you already have a decade behind you, this is one of the few residencies that funds practitioners as readily as academics.
