About this opportunity
The Africa Health Collaborative and the Mastercard Foundation are funding at least seven African health leaders through the Doctor of Public Health at the University of Toronto's Dalla Lana School of Public Health, starting in 2027.
What it covers. Tuition, travel, housing, food, books and other costs for the full length of the professional doctorate, plus orientation and academic support once you are there.
Who can apply. You must be a citizen of and currently living in a sub-Saharan African country, and a graduate of an Africa Health Collaborative partner institution, with no previous doctoral-level study. Partner institutions are in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa University), Ghana (Ashesi University, KNUST), Kenya (Amref International University, Moi University), Rwanda and Mauritius (African Leadership University, AIMS) and South Africa (University of Cape Town). Scholars commit to returning home in the final two years of the programme.
Cameroon note. Cameroon has no Africa Health Collaborative partner institution, so this call is only open to you if you took your degree at one of the universities listed above. Check the partner list at africahealthcollaborative.org/partners before you spend time on it.
Deadline. 1 October 2026, 11:59 p.m. Toronto time. The Collaborative ran mandatory virtual information sessions in late August and early September where the application link was shared — if you missed them, write to globalhealth.dlsph@utoronto.ca before the deadline rather than assuming you are shut out.
You also need to be academically admissible to the DrPH itself, so read the programme requirements at dlsph.utoronto.ca alongside the scholarship rules.
