The Zukunftskolleg is the University of Konstanz's institute for early-career researchers. It is advertising four two-year postdoctoral fellowships, open to any discipline represented at Konstanz — and unusually, these are salaried posts rather than stipends.
Terms. Full-time at German pay scale E 13 TV-L for two years, with a possible third year if you bring in external funding. You also get an individual research allowance, access to a cooperative project funding pool, and money for research assistants, travel and equipment. A position can be split into two half-time roles.
Who can apply. Your doctorate must have been awarded between 30 September 2024 and 1 October 2026 — earlier is accepted with documentation of parental leave or external work contracts. You cannot already hold a permanent professorship or a habilitation. No nationality restriction is stated. Fellows are expected to live in or near Konstanz.
What you send. A motivation letter, a research proposal that connects to a discipline at Konstanz, a CV, a writing sample, and two reference letters — referees can email theirs straight to zukunftskolleg-application@uni-konstanz.de.
Deadline. 12 October 2026 at 11:00 local German time — 10:00 in Cameroon. Note that this is a morning cut-off, not end of day.
The proposal has to name the Konstanz researchers and groups you would work alongside. Generic proposals do badly here.
