About this opportunity
The Hoover Institution at Stanford hires a small number of early-career scholars each year as Hoover Fellows — a salaried research post, not a stipend, with no teaching load attached.
Pay. A twelve-month base salary of $169,950 to $230,000, plus a $20,000 annual housing allowance. Appointments run one to three years.
Who can apply. You need a PhD or equivalent, completed by 1 September 2027, in a field such as economics, history, international relations, national security, political science or public policy. Hoover's page states no citizenship or nationality restriction and describes itself as an equal opportunity employer — but this is a US employment position, so raise work authorisation and visa sponsorship with them early if you are applying from outside the United States.
What you send. A cover letter or statement of interest, recent publications or draft chapters, a CV, research plans of at most two pages, and three recommendation letters.
Deadline. 17 November 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time. Because Togeva does not carry a Pacific zone, the countdown shows the same instant in New York — in Cameroon that is early on 18 November. Apply through hoover.smapply.us.
The research plan is the document that decides this. Two pages, and it has to read as a book or a body of work, not a list of interests.
