About this opportunity
Each year Princeton's Institute for International and Regional Studies brings a cohort of early-career scholars from outside the United States to work on their own research inside one theme. For 2027–28 the theme is "Democracy in Crisis?" — populism, institutional erosion, the political role of media and technology, and what democratic renewal actually looks like.
Who can apply. You must have received your PhD after 1 September 2017, and be currently employed outside the United States in a faculty or professional research position. Doctoral students and people employed as postdocs are not eligible. Fellows are expected to return to their home institution after the year.
What you send. A cover letter of at most 1.5 pages, a CV, a research proposal of at most 3 pages, a writing sample of up to 50 pages, and the contact details of three referees. Applications go through Interfolio; the link is on the PIIRS applications page. Successful candidates holding faculty or research appointments will be asked for a letter from their employer confirming they can accept.
Deadline. 16 November 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern — which is 5:59 a.m. on 17 November in Cameroon.
