UCT Mastercard Foundation Scholars

This is for someone who has already been accepted, or expects to be accepted, onto a taught programme at the University of Cape Town and genuinely cannot pay for it. Any African citizen may apply, Cameroon included — UCT writes the rule as a blanket "citizen of an African country" rather than a country list.

The award is comprehensive: tuition, campus accommodation, living costs, medical aid, a laptop, a study visa where needed, and a flight to and from Cape Town each year, renewed annually subject to satisfactory academic performance.

The requirement most likely to disqualify you is the admission itself. The scholarship only counts if UCT makes you an offer, and undergraduate admission for the 2027 intake closed on 31 July 2026. In practice that leaves the postgraduate route, closing 31 October 2026, open to new applicants — an eligible postgraduate diploma in Health Sciences, an honours degree, or a coursework master's.

The other catch is that research-only degrees are excluded. A master's by dissertation or a PhD will not be funded.

You also need a demonstrable record of leadership and community service, not just good marks. Note that applying to UCT itself carries a handling fee — check the current amount before you start.
