About this opportunity

The Institut français and the Cité internationale des arts run a joint residency in the Marais for artists and cultural professionals based outside France who want time in Paris to research and make work.

What is covered, and what is not. The Institut français pays for your studio apartment at the Cité internationale des arts each month. Everything else — a residency stipend of at least €1,100 a month, your international flights, health and liability insurance, visa fees — comes from an associated partner. You cannot apply alone. You need one or more partner organisations (an institution, a foundation, a cultural operator) willing to back you and carry those costs. Line that up first; it is the real work of this application.

Who is eligible. You must have lived permanently outside French territory for at least five years, be engaged in a recognised professional practice, and be free of other professional obligations for the whole residency.

How long, and when. Three, six or nine months, within set quarterly blocks: 9 April – 5 July 2027, 9 July – 4 October 2027, 8 October 2027 – 3 January 2028, or 7 January – 3 April 2028.

Deadline. 8 October 2026. Applications go through the Institut français portal at ifprog.emundus.fr, linked from the programme page.

French is not formally required, but the call and much of the portal are in French, and Paris will be easier with it.
