About this opportunity
OIST's Research Internship Program places students in a research unit in Okinawa, Japan, for 4 to 6 months. The Spring 2027 term runs between 1 April and 30 September 2027.
What you get
- ¥2,400 per working day as an internship allowance

Who can apply
- Students in the final two years of a bachelor's degree
- Students in any year of a master's degree
- Holders of a bachelor's or master's degree
- Currently enrolled PhD students are not eligible. Enrolled students need their home institution's approval.
- Open to all nationalities — no country restriction, so Cameroonian students are eligible. You need a valid passport for travel to Japan.
Fields: physics, chemistry, mathematical and computational sciences, marine sciences, neuroscience, molecular, cellular and developmental biology, environmental and ecological science, and quantum science.
Cost to apply: a ¥5,000 application fee, non-refundable, with no waivers offered. Budget for this before you start.
Deadline: 15 October 2026 at 23:59 JST. Results are announced in mid-December 2026.
