About this opportunity
The African Development Bank – Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS) funds young African professionals to take a Master's degree at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) in Beppu, Japan. You apply through APU, which recommends candidates to AfDB for the final award.
What it covers
- APU admission fee and full tuition
- ¥150,000 monthly allowance, including housing (subject to change)
- Economy return airfare between your home country and APU
Who can apply
- National of an AfDB member country (all African countries, Cameroon included)
- 35 or younger
- Bachelor's degree in energy, agriculture, health, environmental sustainability, engineering or a related field, with an excellent academic record
- At least one year of paid work in your home country or another African country after your bachelor's, within the past three years
- Not already enrolled in a graduate programme; not AfDB staff or a close relative of AfDB officials
- Willing to return home after your studies to contribute to development
Deadlines for September 2027 entry
- Round 1: 5 November 2026 (APU does not publish a time — submit well before the end of the day, Japan time)
- Round 2: 8 January 2027
APU recommends candidates in mid-March 2027 and final results come by the end of June 2027. APU says deadlines are never extended.

- Prepare a research proposal (ideally aligned with AfDB's "High 5s") and CV following the Graduate Application Handbook.
- APU reviews and recommends candidates; AfDB-JADS makes the final decision.
