About this opportunity

The AHRC Doctoral Landscape Award (DLA) at the University of Sheffield funds four full PhD studentships a year in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities — schools include English; History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities; Languages, Arts and Societies; and Law. Up to one of the four can go to an outstanding international candidate, so competition for that place is intense.

What it covers

  • Tuition fees at the home or international rate, as applicable
  • Maintenance stipend at the UKRI rate — £21,805 for 2026/27
  • 3.5 years of funding (pro-rata for part-time)

Who can apply

  • Open to UK and international applicants — Cameroonians can apply for the international place
  • Not open to anyone already enrolled on a PhD
  • Proficiency in English

Two-step application

  1. Study application for a PhD place through Sheffield's postgraduate portal — by Monday 14 December 2026
  2. Funding application — only after you get a study application number — by 5pm GMT, Friday 19 February 2027. Complete it in one sitting; a template lets you draft answers first.

The countdown on this card tracks the first step. The page gives no time for it — we show 23:59 UK time; submit earlier.

A Faculty panel meets in March 2027 and Sheffield aims to notify all candidates by the end of March. Questions: pgr-scholarships@sheffield.ac.uk.
