About this opportunity
The IMF Fund Internship Program (FIP) brings about 50 PhD students in economics to IMF headquarters each summer to work on real policy research alongside IMF economists.
The internship
- 10–12 weeks, full time (40 h/week), paid
- 7 June – 27 August 2027, IMF HQ, Washington, DC
- An individual research or project assignment; many interns present findings to IMF staff
- The IMF provides documentation for a G-4 visa if you need one. Housing is not provided.
Who can apply
- Within one to two years of completing a PhD in macroeconomics or a related field
- Enrolled as a student during the internship and returning to studies afterwards
- Under 32 when the internship starts in June 2027 (only exception: mandatory military service)
- Excellent written and spoken English; strong analytical, quantitative and computer skills
- Previous FIP participants are not eligible
The FIP recruits globally; there is no nationality restriction on the posting.
