About this opportunity
The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation funds doctoral researchers in the humanities and social sciences whose work speaks to Canada's future — and unusually, it builds a leadership programme around them rather than just writing a cheque.
Two deadlines, and the first one is the one that catches people. The eligibility screening form is due 2 October 2026. Only candidates confirmed eligible get access to the full application, which closes 6 November 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern. This card counts down to the screening form, because missing it ends the process.
Who can apply. You must be in the first or second year of your PhD at the time of application, and one of: a Canadian student at a Canadian university, a Canadian student at a university abroad, or an international student at a Canadian university. International students living outside Canada or enrolled at a university outside Canada are not eligible — so for a Cameroonian applicant, this works only if you are already enrolled in a Canadian PhD.
What your research has to be about. Humanities or social sciences, addressing at least one of the Foundation's four themes: Human Rights and Dignity; Responsible Citizenship; Canada and the World; People and their Natural Environment.
